For more pizza flavor, spoon a little pizza sauce over these mozzarella-topped beef burgers.
1 egg
1 / 4 cup oatmeal
2 tablespoons ketchup
3 / 4 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning, crushed
1 / 4 c. teaspoon garlic powder
1 / 4 cup teaspoon onion powder
1 / 4 c. teaspoon salt
3 / 4 pound lean ground beef
4 ounces low fat mozzarella cheese, sliced
Lettuce leaves (optional)
tomato slices (optional)
Ketchup and / or other spices (optional)
4 whole wheat buns or Kaiser rolls, split and toasted
Directions
1. In a bowl beat the egg lightly with a fork. Add oatmeal, 2 tablespoons tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder and salt. Add ground beef and mix well. Form the mixture into four 3/4-inch-thick patties.
2. Place patties on rack of unheated broiler pan. Broil 3-4 inches from heat for 12 to 14 minutes or an instant-read thermometer inserted into the side of the cake registers 160 degrees F, turning once. Sprinkle with cheese, broil about 1 minute or until cheese is melted.
3. Serve warm with sliced steak sandwiches or pizza Kaiser buns, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, and add and / or spices if you like. Makes 4 servings.
